About

Scientific & Medical Writing / Editing

Cath Ennis, PhD, PMP

Background

I hold a BSc in genetics, a PhD in molecular cell biology, and conducted my postdoctoral research on viral and human genome evolution. Since leaving the lab in 2005 I have worked in diverse life sciences research fields in both the academic and private sectors.

I have worked in a number of hybrid in-house writing and editing-based roles, and have been freelancing part-time since 2007 and full-time since 2020. I have extensive and diverse experience as a grant writer, medical writer, science writer, scientific editor, science communicator, and project manager. I have additional professional experience as a knowledge translation specialist and product manager.

I’m originally from York, England, and now live and work in beautiful North Vancouver, Canada, on the traditional, unceded territories of the Tsleil-Waututh, Squamish, and Musqueam First Nations.

Further details are available on my LinkedIn profile and author site; references available upon request.

Working with me

If you’re interested in working with me, please drop me a line with some basic information about your project, including any hard deadlines. If I’m available to work to your preferred timeline, we’ll set up a brief introductory call and then proceed to developing a scope of work.

For editing projects, I will ask for a representative sample of the full text. Edits will be provided to you as tracked changes and comments in Microsoft Word. I’m happy to go over edits with you on a phone or video call, but please let me know in advance if you’re interested in this service so I can build it into our scope of work.

I generally quote on an hourly rate, up to a maximum number of hours for the full project, so there are no surprises.

I am in the Pacific time zone and usually work regular office hours, but I’m flexible, especially close to grant deadlines.
