Coaching

No-one is born knowing how to write a good scientific article or funding proposal; it’s a skill that needs to be honed over time. This can feel like an intimidating process, but there’s no need to re-invent the wheel when you can benefit from my more than 15 years of experience helping early-career researchers to improve their writing.

Stuck on a specific writing project? If you’re not sure how best to approach writing a paper, studentship/fellowship application, or other technical document, I can help you develop a structured outline and writing process to ensure you’re communicating your research clearly and effectively while meeting all your deadlines.

Looking for more general help to improve your scientific writing? I can work with you to take the pain out of the process! I’m not an English teacher, but I can teach you some best practices that will help you overcome common obstacles to a) getting the words onto the page and b) effectively communicating the importance of your research to peer reviewers and other audiences.

This is not a structured, one-size-fits-all course. This is a personalized coaching program. We’ll start with a casual Zoom call to discuss the specific challenges you’d like to address. I might ask you to share (confidentially, of course) your current draft of your specific project, and/or some other examples of your writing and the feedback you’ve received on it so far. We’ll talk about your current writing process, and what is and isn’t working for you. From there, we’ll decide together what kind of additional support would work best for you.

The initial consultation (up to a 1 hour call) and coaching plan development costs CAD 120 plus applicable taxes. The cost of any subsequent coaching will depend on the type and extent of support required.
